Recipe for Hibiscus Tea

Our neighbor Tess makes the best hibiscus tea! It just so happens that we have a bunch of the purple (Roselle) hibiscus trees that are commonly used to make a delicious pink tea. Leaves, flowers, and buds can all be used to make tea, and each gives a slightly different flavor profile.

Tess used to come over and harvest leaves from our trees to make tea. We didn’t mind sharing and were happy to get some of the tea she’d make. (Especially since hers was always better than mine.) But Tess now has her own trees for making hibiscus tea, because our trees kept scattering volunteer keikis all over the yard, so I gave her a bunch of seedlings rather than tossing them on the compost pile.

They’ve grown like wildfire, so Tess has no further use for our trees. But she still brings us a a pitcher of fresh-brewed hibiscus tea every now and then. I asked her to share her recipe with me (and with y’all), so here it is. I know you’ll love it as much as we do!

Please feel free to share! :)
