G.R.I.T.S. in Paradise: Tephra

The Kilauea volcano has been active lately, with a new (albeit short) episode every month or so. I’m especially fascinated by the tephra clouds that obscure the sun and dump chunks of light-as-air lava and needle-thin strings of spun glass (affectionately called Pele’s hair) miles from the eruption.
