Pupcicles

Our puppy Kailani has reminded us that dogs (especially mouthy puppies) need a variety of enrichment items to keep them busy and satisfied. One of her favorite enrichment items is Pupcicles!

I fill two 1/2 cup Souper Cubes lidded freezer trays (to make 12 pupcicles since we have four dogs) with an assortment of chopped fruits and veggies that are in danger of going bad if we don’t use them fast.

Important: Dogs can eat many of the fruits and veggies we do, but some things we eat (like grapes!) are toxic to dogs, so always check to be sure you aren’t including anything that can harm them.

Today, I cleaned the fridge to make room for a new batch of groceries, so the dogs’ pupcicles were made with chopped chunks of flimsy carrots, wilted celery, leftover melon, and a soft banana. I poured in enough peanut-butter-flavored water (made by adding a spoonful of peanut butter to a jar of warm water and shaking it) to cover the ingredients, then put the covered trays in the freezer.

So, here’s the short version:

Fill 1/2 cup Souper Cube trays with a chopped assortment of your dogs’ favorite fruits and veggies, cover with water, and freeze. Serve it to them outside, because it WILL make a mess, guaranteed!
